Hello lovelies! I have finally gotten through my
mid year exams and the last two weeks have been so incredibly stressful but

Self Acceptance, Learning to Love Yourself and The Selfie Debate | Happy International Women's Day ❤
Happy International Women's Day to all the beautiful women of the world!
Today I wanted to tell all the women reading this that you are all so beautiful. And I know that sometimes it's really difficult to love the body we have, and love the little flaws about ourselves but you are really all so wonderful and it's our flaws that ultimately make us into the wonderful, unique, majestic creatures we are. So love your flaws, love your hormonal skin that breaks out at any glimpse of stress, love your long legs, love your short legs, love your thighs, love your bellies, love your arms, love yourself. After all, our bodies spend their entire lives loving us, it's about time we loved them back. Your skin heals after it is damaged, your hair grows back after it is cut, your body loves you so much and protects you. So love your body back and love yourself because you are worth more than you could ever imagine.
In celebration of international women's day, i shot a few self portraits and filtered through all the shots to find the ones that I was happy with. On the topic of self portraits and images of one self in general, it's too often that I see women and girls around me get made fun of, or discouraged because of the new era of selfies - why not celebrate it? Why not celebrate self appreciation, your bodies are art and if you want to take a selfie, take a god damn selfie. I saw this quote the other day and thought it summed up my feelings towards this pretty damn well.
"November 19th, 2013,‘Selfie’ was named the Word of the Year by the Oxford DictionaryPseudo-intellectuals everywhere cried about the ‘death of the English language’Because God forbid modern colloquial speech be recognised as valid.Time Magazine refers to ‘millenials’ as the ‘me me me generation’Selfish, all we care about is personal gratificationLazy, entitled, shallow narcissists.A picture of a girl taking a selfie on her phone is used for the coverBecause our selfishness can be summed up in the fact that we like how we look enough to document it.We are consumed, they tell us, with our self image.Everything is about us.Me-me-me.With the addition of every word to the dictionary,‘Hashtag’. ‘Perf’. ‘Sexting’. ‘Totes’. ‘Selfie’,The ‘me-me-me’ generation continues to make it all about ourselves,And we should, they tell us, weep, We should weep because we are entitled,Because all we care about are selfies and parties and Instagram,Because this is the generation that will one day run the world,And for that, we should weep, Because all we are is ‘me-me-me’.Let me tell you something.Every year, university tuition will be 2.3% more expensive for MY GENERATION,MY GENERATION reports the highest levels of anxiety and depression than ANY other generation,15% more of US than YOU will go to university, But 46% of MY GENERATION won’t find a job until over a year after law school,MY GENERATION, on average, is $47,628 in debt.58% of girls in MY GENERATION feels like they are the wrong weight,95% of people with eating disorders are part of MY GENERATION,And MY GENERATION has a million dollar industry telling us that we are not good enough,That we are ugly, lazy, and entitled,And anything we do to be financially successful, Or less stressed,Or beautiful, god dammit,Is in vain.So pick up your phone,Pick your favourite filter,And take a goddamn selfie. You deserve it for having to grow up in these times. First of all - I apologize for my sudden absence in the last week. School got very hectic and I am being overloaded with tests and assessments all at once however on the plus side, I am halfway through my first term back so soon I'll get two weeks off to focus on blogging!
A few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to be sent this INCREDIBLE 'Must Have Professional Brush Set' by the wonderful people over at Furless Cosmetics. This is not my first time trying Furless products as I have been a big fan of their cruelty free and vegan friendly beauty products for quite some time so I was super excited to be able to try this brush set out. It retails online for $149.95 and the brushes come in a handy little brush apron that is perfect for travelling or if you do freelance makeup.
(ps: all the brushes in the set are available for individual purchase - just click on the names of each brush for a direct link to that individual brush)
| Yesterday I went into the city with my parents and one of my sisters to see the Giants walk through the Perth CBD as part of the Perth International Arts Festival. |
The year 12 ball is something that I've been counting down the days till basically since I started high school. I remember seeing my sister all dressed up for her year 12 ball and feeling so unbelievably excited to have mine in 5 years time. It's so weird to think that those 5 years have completely zoomed past and now here I am, planning my ball which will be happening in less than 2 months.
Finding the perfect ball gown was something that I put so much stress into when I thought about it. I stressed about whether I would be able to even find a dress that looked good on me, I stressed about the cost of the dresses available and I stressed about walking into my school ball and seeing someone with the same dress as me (seriously I devised a flawless emergency exit plan for if this happens). Let me start off by saying that I ended up finding my dream dress for a grand total of $5 (there will be a whole post on my ball outfit after the event!) when I least expected it. So first of all, try your best not to stress about this all, things have a way of working out.
1. I did my regular base routine to even out my skin tone - I used my Face It Radiance Concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes and set it all with my L'oreal Translucide Powder in Light.
2. Next up I primed my eyes and eyeshadow is optional for this, but I just swept a warm toned medium brown all over the lid to add more dimension and emphasise the eyes.
3. As for eyeliner, I stuck to my holy grail Clio Kill Black Liquid Eyeliner to create a winged eyeliner look. I took the line past the inner corner of my eye for a more elongated look and also made sure to thicken the eyeliner in the middle portion of my eye to try to balance it out by making the eyes look slightly more open.
4. Do your brows and apply mascara as per usual - you can use dramatic falsies for a more bold look.
5. Next up, I literally piled on the bronzer. Using my NYC smooth skin sunny bronzer, I used an angle brush to apply the powder slightly above where you would usually contour. This gives the appearance of lifted cheekbones. Once you've put on enough product and the bronzer is prominent, blend out the edges and add white dots on top of the bronzer with a white kajal eyeliner pencil.
6. Use a black kajal eyeliner pencil to create the nose by colouring in the tip of your nose in.
7. Draw a straight line down from the centre of the nose where you have filled it in and connect it to the middle of your cupid's bow.
8. Fill in your top lip with the black eyeliner to complete the look.
Nothing screams summer more than rocking an all white outfit, whether it be a white summer dress and sandals to a casual lunch with friends, or a white blazer and jeans to smart formal meeting - something about the crisp colour white makes a very clean looking and chic outfit to rock. Although this is a trend that can seem quite intimidating since we've all become so accustomed to wearing black, by incorporating different textures and lines into an all white outfit, it can be just as flattering as our beloved black staple pieces in our wardrobes.
Today I matched my white cigarette pants from ASOS made from a lightweight crepe material with my thick white cotton v neck t shirt which I picked up from one of my previous trips to the markets. I tied the bottom of my shirt to add more shape as well to break up the overall look and make it a little bit more wearable and casual. On my feet, I'm wearing my white birkenstock knock offs that I purchased from Factorie at a bargain price of $4.95 (unfortunately I think it has sold out online so I can't link it).
In terms of jewellery, I stuck with a simple gold theme by wearing my Marc Jacobs watch, some miscellaneous rings from Lovisa and a gold wire crystal choker I made myself.
To break up the all white look and to add a casual summer flair to the outfit, I used my beloved thrifted simple brown bag.

[HAT: Dotti DRESS: Bugis Lane in Singapore]
Today's outfit was loosely based off Emma from one of my favourite tv shows, Red Band Society. Emma's style is very preppy and incorporates some of my favourite style elements including high collars and hats. Emma, who is played by the talented Ciara Bravo, is definitely one of my favorite style icons on TV at the moment. Her fun and quirky style is the perfect balance between preppy and rocker chick - a combination that I wouldn't usually gravitate towards, but am loving at the moment.
This particular outfit would be perfect for the fall season paired with some tights ( you can even add a pop of colour by wearing coloured tights such as burgundy or forest green) and some ankle boots. I adore the subtle plaid print on the dress as it adds an extra bit of detail to the otherwise quite simple dress. I completely forgot to photograph the shoes that I paired with this outfit but I wore a pair of burgundy T-bar flat shoes (similar to the doc marten core polly t bar flat shoes) that I also purchased in Bugis Lane from the store 'Plain Jane'.
